Why I Choose Not to Use Temple Jewellery Moulds in My Terracotta Art

As a terracotta jewellery artist, every piece I create is a reflection of my imagination, my hands, and my connection with the material. Terracotta is an ancient art form with a beautiful earthy character, and I love exploring its possibilities through textures, forms, and original designs.

One creative choice I have made in my journey is to avoid using temple jewellery moulds for my work.

Temple jewellery has a rich history and cultural significance, especially in Indian traditional adornment. The intricate motifs, divine figures, and detailed craftsmanship are admired by many. I deeply respect the artisans who preserve this beautiful style. However, as an artist, I feel drawn towards creating something that carries my own artistic identity.

For me, terracotta jewellery is not just about recreating familiar patterns. It is about exploring new shapes, experimenting with textures, and allowing each piece to have its own character. When I design a pendant, earring, or necklace, I want the process to begin with an idea, not a mould. The small imperfections created by hand, the unique textures, and the personal touch are what make handmade jewellery special.

Working without temple jewellery moulds also gives me the freedom to experiment. I can create contemporary designs, nature-inspired elements, abstract forms, and pieces that connect with different emotions and stories. Each creation becomes a small journey of discovery.

I believe that handmade art becomes more meaningful when it carries the artist’s voice. Just as every artist has a different style of painting or sculpting, jewellery artists also have their own creative paths. Choosing not to use moulds is my way of protecting that individuality and celebrating originality.

My intention is not to compare one style with another. Traditional designs and modern interpretations both have their own beauty. My choice simply comes from my passion for creating terracotta jewellery that feels personal, expressive, and uniquely mine.
